Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
