Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants About Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just half a year following instigating disrespectful taunts aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a contract joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His lengthy spell at Elland Road concluded through agreement this past summer.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting abusive songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the one-cap England international will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to lift the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Previous Conflict Involving Bamford & the Manager

The pair had a past before Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

All appears has been put behind them with United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.

The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem at all with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.

“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and take it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Career Challenges

The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season however the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
