The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
